Last month we took a survey in our monthly “The Edge” newsletter, which is sent to thousands of race directors and event organizers across the nation. We were curious about what their top five challenges were, both the day-to-day issues and the once-in-awhile-thing that causes major stress.
We took some bets in the office (a completely legal gambling ring, I assure you) and most of us thought that the top challenge would be getting registration numbers up or making your event stand out from the competition. We were surprised! Check out the results:
Top 5 Event Director Challenges
1. Getting Enough Sponsor Support – 78.9%
2. Getting Enough Participants Registered – 60.5%
3. Promoting & Getting Event Media Coverage – 47.4%
4. Getting Enough Volunteers – 39.5%
5. Competing With Other Events – 31.6%
Getting sponsor support was the top challenge by far, with getting enough participants coming in second. What do you think? Do you agree? Leave a comment below to share your opinion or a top challenge that’s not on the list.
If this #1 challenge rings a bell for you, we’ve got an upcoming free webinar on called “Sponsorship – Turning a Transaction into a Relationship.”
You’ll learn about what sponsors are looking for and how you can attract and retain their support from someone with decades of experience in packaging and selling sponsorships. Our speaker, Steve Baskin, is the CEO of YAVAY, an online service connecting buyers and sellers of sponsorships.
