Registration: How to Group Your Categories
|
 |
|
Events with a large number of registration categories could lead to confusion for your participants. To mitigate any confusion, we recommend using the Group Categories tool to help consolidate registration options.
Please follow these steps on how to group categories.
- Go to www.active.com/explorer.
- Type in your username and password, click log in.
- When the page refreshes, go to the “Select Listing ->” drop down bar located in the top left. Pull the bar down to select which listing you would like to access.
- Once you have selected a listing, you will see a set of yellow folders on the left hand side of the page; Group Categories will be listed under the Registration Categories folder
- Enter the Name of each category group and click save (i.e. “Adult Registration” and “Youth Registration”)
- Once you have added all of your groups, you must associate each category to a group by checking the appropriate box and then click Save Associations.

MMRF Powerful Athletes
Alicia O’Neill

Multiple myeloma is an incurable and devastating blood cancer. Although progress has been made in treating multiple myeloma, the five-year relative survival rate remains one of the lowest of all cancers. The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) was founded by twin sisters Karen Andrews and Kathy Giusti, shortly after Kathy was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. The mission of MMRF is to relentlessly pursue innovative means that accelerate the development of next-generation multiple myeloma treatments to extend the lives of patients and lead to a cure.
A marathon runner herself, Alicia started a running consulting company, Reach More Runners, when she found herself "between jobs." One of her first calls was to the MMRF. Alicia’s connection to MMRF founder Kathy Giusti, through the New Canaan community where they both live, inspired her to follow her vision of establishing a marathon program for the organization.
Her running community connections and the experience of having been a charity runner in the past made her uniquely qualified to start up a marathon program for the MMRF. She got to work first as a volunteer, and then later progressed to virtually a full-time position. She launched a national marathon charity program, MMRF Marathon Program, beginning with the 2007 NYC marathon. A year later, she expanded it into Boston, Chicago, New York, to the Marine Corps., and beyond. Now in its second year, the program is on track to raise $1 million. With 310 participants, up from 62 in the first year, the marathon is growing fast and with plans to include new races such as Falmouth, Bay to Breakers and Bolder Boulder in the future. Interest in athletic events has been so strong that in 2010, the MMRF is expanding its scope to include triathlons, cycling events and shorter-distance races, and is rebranding the MMRF Marathon Program as MMRF Powerful Athletes Program.
The program has all of the ingredients for success, with 93% of all funds raised going directly to multiple myeloma research, and 90% of participants having some personal connection to someone with multiple myeloma. “Multiple myeloma is a terrible disease, and since the MMRF is the world’s largest private funder of myeloma research, our runners know that their donations are making a difference. That is why our runners really over-deliver on their fundraising minimums. They know that their donations are going directly to fund research that is fast tracking research and extending the lives of patients.”
Another key ingredient to the success of MMRF Powerful Athletes is the enthusiasm and passion Alicia brings to the events. “I love my work: empowering runners to reach a personal milestone, helping them use their love for running to help fight a terrible disease, working with race directors who love what they do…It is great all around.”
When Alicia O’Neill founded Reach More Runners, she was completely focused on finding ways to help race directors increase revenues and reduce workloads. “They are an amazing group of individuals who have more to do than there are hours in the day. My focus with Reach More Runners is to make their job easier and help them be more successful. In turn, they have given Reach More Runners a shot and included us on their charity roster, providing us with a platform to raise funds for our foundation."
"It is such a great feeling to know that you’re helping runners bring more meaning to their marathon experience. Instead of feeling powerless, these runners feel empowered to get out there and raise money for a disease that has impacted a love one. The fact that we get to help them reach that kind of a personal milestone is, well, pretty awesome.”

I work with Event Directors all over the country to set up online registration for their endurance events. I set up their registration sites and work with them before it is activated to make any adjustments, changes or answer any of their questions about our products. Once the site is exactly how they envisioned, I activate registrations for their event. I also conduct group and individual trainings in order to show our clients how to use our products.
For fun, I enjoy spending time with my fiancé, Mike, watching movies, running, visiting my family in St. Louis, and going to the beach.
