How to Change a Participant's Registration Category

Active.com

Do you have participants contacting you, asking to change their category? Don't fret. You can easily make this change in just a few simple steps. Here's how

  1. Go to www.active.com/explorer.
  2. Type in your username and password, click log in.
  3. When the page refreshes go to the Select Listing-> drop down menu located near the top left – click the blue box to see your list of events. Select which listing you would like to access.
  4. Once you have selected the appropriate listing you will see a set of yellow folders on the left hand side of the page; go to the Registration Tools folder.
  5. Go to the Search/Edit Registrations folder (Note: If you do not see the "Search/Edit Registrations" choice, please contact clientsupport@active.com in order to have this permission added to your profile.)

  6. In the search fields, enter the name of the participant whose registration you would like to update.

  7. Click on the View/Edit Button next to the registrant's name to make changes (only one person's registration can be changed at a time).
  8. Click the Edit button to change the category. In this example, we will be switching a participant from the Half Marathon ($60) to a 5K ($28) without issuing a refund for the difference. Click Next.
  9. In this example, the system will try to refund the participant the difference ($32.00). Set the Cost Adjustment to "Additional Charge" and add 32.00 to the box next to it. This will cancel out the refund.

  10. Once the cost adjustment has been made, click Next.
  11. The next page should confirm that no charges are being applied.
  12. Click on Save Changes to complete this process.

Taking a gamble on new ideas in adventure racing
Colleen Ast
Glenn Millar

For several years, Colleen Ast and Glenn Millar have been partners in Desert Winds Adventure Series, a company that organizes outdoor adventure events and races near Las Vegas. Believing they know what makes a great race, and building on their combined experience with events, athletes and the tourism industry, they plan to inaugurate The Las Vegas Urban Race in January 2010.

Their plan is to bring “The Amazing Race” concept to Las Vegas, incorporating new ideas to appeal to participants and making a special effort to benefit select charity partners.

The Event
The Las Vegas Urban Race is designed to take urban racing to another level. In the spirit of “The Amazing Race,” the course will feature a scavenger hunt, test participants' knowledge of local trivia, and present physical challenges that all ages can have fun attempting.

The Participants
Unlike most events, this race will offer unique registration categories to participants. A new spin on the team concept allows teams of two or four. This offering was inspired by feedback the Event Directors received from parents that say they'd love to race with their teenagers, and couples who want to team up with other couples to race together. "So, we listened," Colleen says, "and teams of two and four are allowed."

There's also a category called "Squad" which is offered to any active or retired military personnel, police officers, fire fighters, and EMTs. Registration in this category is offered to these participants at a discount, to recognize and thank them for their community service.

Corporate Support
Colleen and Glenn are working hard to get many local companies involved in the event so that the benefits of the race can be shared. The event includes a vendor expo and a post-race party offering food and music. Vendors from the outdoor industry will be invited to exhibit, and all will be asked to give back 2% of their sales from the day to be given to the event's charity partners.

Giving Back to Their Community
Colleen and Glenn hand-picked smaller charities to work with on this event. Their intent is to bring some attention to organizations that are often overlooked. They recognize that these charities are just as much in need of support and recognition as higher-profile organizations. "They do wonderful work in our community," says Colleen. "Las Vegas isn't just about The Strip, but about the people that live and work here and make a difference!" The hope is that participants think of coming to Las Vegas, not to misbehave, but to have a positive impact.

Colleen and Glenn don't want anyone to miss out on the inaugural event. They're encouraging early registration by offering a 5% discount, valid through the end of July. Enter discount code 0609 when you register on Active.com

Jason Chicoine

Expertise:
I partner with non-profit organizations who utilize our online tools for their fundraising events and programs. These include fundraising runs/walks, marathons or other activities, as well as event fundraising teams and general contributions. A majority of the organizations I work with use our online registration/fundraising tools, volunteer management, and content management tools on ActiveGiving.com to manage and grow their programs. It's a great fit for non-profits since our technology simplifies these processes for them, and it gives their organization exposure to the many users that search Active.com for events in their area.

What I like to do in my spare time:
When I'm not at work I enjoy hanging out with my wife, enjoying sunny San Diego. This year we're looking forward to the birth of our first child! I'm a huge outdoors guy and I always try to get some fishing in when I can and swing the clubs at the local golf courses. Most importantly. I'm a Tennessee Titans super-fan, and when it's the NFL season it's tough to pull me away from the television cheering on my team.
