Racing Toward a Cure...
First-time event director, Bill Burnett, didn't know what he was getting himself into when he decided to plan the Cohasset Triathlon based in Cohasset, Massachusetts. This small event has a big reach ... in addition to hundreds of local Massachusetts residents, this sprint distance triathlon includes 875 athletes from 15 different states, and the total field size includes 36 ranked elite athletes, such as Jarrod Shoemaker, US 2008 Olympic Team member.
Bill is very proud of having such elite athletes participate in his event, in only his second year with the Cohasset Tri; Bill has had an overwhelming amount of support from his friends and the entire town. Bill decided that he wanted to bring a triathlon to his town because of the scenery and great course. He never expected the type of turnout he received.
The triathlon is not only a great event; it is also an event that is doing great things. The Cohasset Triathlon is proud to partner for the second consecutive year with Juvenile Diabetes Research, which is expected to raise more than $125,000 to help find a cure for juvenile diabetes and its life-threatening complications. All the event's net proceeds go directly to JDRF; in 2007, the race netted $50,219 in donation money for the JDRF!
The JDRF was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with juvenile, or Type 1, diabetes |
Type 1 diabetes is a disease that strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin-dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications |
JDRF is determined to find a cure for juvenile diabetes, and with the help of the Cohasset Triathlon they can get closer to their goal.
"The town of Cohasset has really rallied around this event and lent its support and enthusiasm," says Bill Burnett, director of the Cohasset Triathlon. "The waiting list is long and people who were fortunate enough to get in are coveting their bib numbers."
The Cohasset Triathlon is a great blend of a beautiful, challenging course, unbelievable scenery, and great competition all tied up with a charitable component.

Responsibilities:
I promote the growth and development of a team of Application Specialists who provide client support for our Registration Center, ActiveGiving and Volunteer Module products. I regularly work with my team to keep them up-to-date on our latest product updates and client needs. As a team, we work to make sure our clients are equipped to plan a successful event using our software.
What I like to do in my spare time:
Well, when I'm not in the office I can often be found running along the harbor downtown or on the beach in Coronado. I often take my golden retrievers Bear and Bosco on a beach run or to the nearby mountains for a long hike. I also lead a small group Bible study at my church. It's hardly small ... I regularly host about 15 ladies every Wednesday evening! I am fortunate to be a native San Diegan and enjoy spending time with them!
